Small Groups

We were never intended to live life alone. We were created for relationships. At Imlay City Christian Reformed Church we believe that people grow best when they are connected in a healthy small group environment. That is why we continuously strive to move people from larger church group environments into small groups.

We believe the church must grow larger and smaller at the same time. Bigger is only better if there is a solid infrastructure in place for healthy, sustainable growth through small groups. We notice that that significant life change happens best face-to-face in small groups.

What are Small Groups?

Small Groups are made of five to six couples or eight to twelve individuals who gather to study God’s Word and discuss the issues and challenges of life that we all face. It is also where we pray and care for one another and where you are missed when you are not there.

Small Groups come in all shapes and sizes – married couples, singles, men’s, women’s, children, no children, workplace, young adult or empty nesters.

What is the purpose of Small Groups?

In a way, everything we do at ICCRC is done with small groups in mind. We want people to be a part of healthy small group environment where life change can happen.

There are five essentials components you will see in our small groups:

  • Life Change – The goal of a healthy group is transformation, not dispensing information
  • Cultivate Relationships – There is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships in an environment where people feel relaxed and safe
  • Promote Participation – Participation is essential because people grow when they are serving, engaging in conversation and taking responsibility.
  • Provide Care – In the good times, we cheer for one another. In the hard times, we walk with one another.
  • Identify Future Leaders – We are called to make disciples who are disciple makers. A healthy group will produce future leaders.

How do I join a Small Group?

We know it can be difficult to take the next step from a large group environment like our weekend worship experience to a smaller setting. That’s why we would like to offer a few suggestions to help.
